>> Kathie Kushto-Reese: I'm Katherine Kushto-Reese. >> Shari Lynn: I'm Shari Lynn. And today we will be showing you enteral/parenteral basic IV set up. Set up of primary tubing. Check physician orders. Gather equipment. Wipe. Remove outer plastic bag of IV solution. Check solution for cloudiness, particulate matter, and expiration date. Open bag of IV tubing. Lock roller clamp on tubing set. Remove plastic plug from IV bag. Remove cap from spike of administration sed while keeping spike sterile. Insert spike into bag using a thrusting, twisting motion. Invert bag. Squeeze drip chamber until halfway full. See line marker. Open clamp and prime tubing. Recap end of administration sed if previously removed. Don clean, non-sterile gloves. Clean clave connector with alcohol wipe at patient's IV site. Flush with saline, and then connect tubing. Connect tubing. Open flow clamp. Regulate IV by counting drips in drip chamber. Label tubing to indicate date and time changed and sign with your initials. Remove gloves. Wash hands and document.
