How to install a School of Nursing Licensed version of SPSS

Install IBM SPSS Statistics for MacOS (Please note this may take a few minutes to complete) 

1. If offsite i.e. not on Hopkins campus launch JHPulse and establish a VPN connection
2. Download installation files to computer from here
   1. SPSS_Statistics_25_mac.dmg
3. Install IBM SPSS Statistics Client 25.0
   1. Install IBM SPSS Statistics - Essentials for Python = Yes
4. Run the License Authorization Wizard
   1. Product Authorization = Concurrent user license
   2. License manager name = spssls.nursing.jhu.edu

1. Download Fix files to computer from here
   a. 25.0-IM-S25STATC-MAC-IF008.zip
2. Close SPSS
3. Open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
4. Navigate to the home directory in which SPSS Statistics 25
   a. cd /Applications/IBM/SPSS/Statistics/25
   b. sudo chmod +x IF_LAW_Python_25.sh
   c. sudo ./IF_LAW_Python_25.sh
5. SPSS Statistics 25 License Authorization Wizard is now patched
   
   *** Important***
   If SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard and Python Utilities still can not be launched after patch, please rename the application name in Finder. For example, rename "Statistics License Authorization Wizard.app" to "Statistics License Authorization Wizard_1.app", and then rename it back. macOS 10.15 Catalina Finder will refresh the application and remove the restriction on this application.
   

Install IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows Windows (Please note this may take a few minutes to complete)

1. If offsite i.e. not on Hopkins campus launch JHPulse and establish a VPN connection
2. Download installation files to local computer from here
   a. SON IBM SPSS Statistics 25.exe
3. Install IBM SPSS Statistics Client 25.0

How to purchase a personal copy of SPSS

IBM SPSS is licensed for use on a timed basis (i.e., it is leased). Before you purchase, decide how long you will need to have access to the software, and purchase the appropriate rental duration (6 month or 12 month). The software stops working after the lease expires, unless an additional license fee is paid.  Pricing for students is significantly reduced and may be worthwhile for some who want the flexibility to have access anywhere anytime. 

1. Visit the JHU OnTheHub site:  http://jhu.onthehub.com
   
2. You should be directed to the SiteMinder authentication page. Log in with your JHEDID@jh.edu and Password.
3. After logging in, you should see a tab for either "Faculty/Staff" or "Student" (or both, if applicable). Search for SPSS. Students should choose "IBM SPSS Statistics Standard GradPack" (Standard is recommended over the Base package).
4. You must choose the version of SPSS you want to download, either Windows or Mac. Note that a purchase of one version does not allow you to use it on a different platform, so be sure you get the version that is appropriate for your computer.
5. Click the "Add to Cart" button for the version that you wish to purchase, then follow the instructions to check out and pay for the software.
6. When purchasing the software, you will be given the option to purchase "extended access" to the software, which will allow you to download the software at a later time if needed (for example, if you purchase a new computer and need to reinstall the software). If you keep a copy of the downloaded installation files AND the activation code somewhere safe, you should not need to purchase extended access.
7. Follow the installation instructions carefully. After installing the software, you MUST enter the activation code for the software to be properly licensed. Otherwise, your software will stop working, and if you didn't keep a copy of the activation code, you may be forced to purchase extended access to retrieve the activation code.
