Steps for Apple iOS Devices:

These instructions were created with iOS 9. If you have an different iOS, the steps may vary slightly, but the information you need to enter should be the same.

  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account.
  2. Tap Microsoft Exchange

Instructions for Faculty, Staff and Students

Note if you are a student who is also JH staff, you should probably follow the steps for "Faculty & Staff" where applicable.

Steps for Android Devices:

  1. From the Applications menu, select Settings and then select Accounts.
  2. Choose  + Add Account
  3. Select Exchange account. This option may be named “Exchange ActiveSync” or “Corporate” on some versions of Android.
  4. Enter your full e-mail address
  5. (For Faculty & Staff ONLY) Enter JHED-ID@jhu.edu
  6. (For Students ONLY) Enter JHED-ID@jh.eduaddress JHEDID@jh.edu (note the that this should be be jh.edu not jhu.edu)
  7. Enter your JHED-ID password, and then select NEXT>JHEDID password
  8. Enter a Description for the account and tap Next
  9. The phone should automatically detect server settings and configure everything needed to access your mailbox.  If it does, proceed to step 9.
  10. If the server settings are not automatically detected, continue with use the following steps settings to manually configure your settingsdevice:
    1. For Faculty & Staff ONLY
      1. Domain\Username   Enter “WIN\” followed by your JHED-ID (Example: WIN\BJones1)
      2. If Domain and Username are separate text boxes in your version of Android, enter WIN in the Domain box and your JHED-ID in the Username box.
      3. Password   Use your JHED-ID password if this field is not already populated.
      4. Exchange Server   Enter mobile.johnshopkins.edu
    2. Server: outlook.office365.com
    3. Domain: leave blank
    4. Username: JHEDID@jh.edu For Students ONLYDomain\Username   Type your full e-mail address in this box JHED-ID@jh.edu (note the that this should be jh.eduedu not jhu.edu)
    5. If Domain and Username are separate text boxes in your version of Android, leave the Domain box empty and type your full e-mail address in the Username box.
      Note: On some versions of Android, you need to use the domain\username format. For example, jh.edu\JHED_ID@jh.edu (this should rarely be necessary).
    6. Password   Use your JHED-ID password if this field is not already populated.
    7. Exchange Server   Enter outlook.office365.com
  11. Tap NEXT>
  12. As soon as your phone verifies the server settings, the Account Options screen displays. The options available depend on the version of Android on your device. The options may include the following:
    1. IMPORTANT – Be sure to uncheck “Sync Text messages” if it is checked. Otherwise, all of your text messages will be sent to your JHU mailbox
    2. Email checking frequency   The default value is Automatic (push).
    3. Amount to synchronize   This is the amount of mail you want to keep on your mobile phone.
    4. Sync contacts from this account   If you select this option, your contacts will be synchronized between your phone and your account.
  13. Tap NEXT> and then type a name for this account and the name you want displayed when you send e-mail to others.
  14. Tap DONE to complete the e-mail setup and start using your account.

  1. Tap Next on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  2. Choose the type of information you want to synchronize between your account and your device, and then tap Save. By default, Mail, Contacts, and Calendar information are synchronized.

Alternatively, you can also use the Outlook app on your iOS device

Microsoft now only recommends using the Outlook app for accessing Office365 accounts on an Android device.  See the link above for the app details.

When specifying your email address for the Office365 account, use JHEDID@jh.edu (note the that this should be jh.edu not jhu.edu)
