JH Faculty and Staff should use the Enterprise instructions for enrolling in Microsoft Intune.

Instructions for Students

Note if you are a student who is also JH staff, you probably need follow the JH Enterprise's instructions for enrolling your device in Microsoft Intune above. Unless you were a student first prior to becoming staff. In which case, the "Student" settings will probably apply to you.  If you try one and it doesn't work, then try the other.  If you still have difficulty, contact the SON Help Desk

Steps for Apple iOS Devices:

These instructions were created with iOS 9. If you have an different iOS, the steps may vary slightly, but the information you need to enter should be the same.

  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account.
  2. Tap Microsoft Exchange.
  3. Enter your full e-mail address JHEDID@jh.edu (note the that this should be jh.edu not jhu.edu)
  4. Enter your JHEDID password
  5. Enter a Description for the account and tap Next
  6. The phone should automatically detect server settings and configure everything needed to access your mailbox.  If it does, proceed to step 9.
  7. If the server settings are not automatically detected, use the following settings to configure your device:
    1. Server: outlook.office365.com
    2. Domain: leave blank
    3. Username: JHEDID@jh.edu (note the that this should be jh.edu not jhu.edu)
    4. Password: Enter your JHED password
  8. Tap Next on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  9. Choose the type of information you want to synchronize between your account and your device, and then tap Save. By default, Mail, Contacts, and Calendar information are synchronized.


Steps for Android Devices:

  1. From the Applications menu, select Settings and then select Accounts.
  2. Choose  + Add Account
  3. Select Exchange account. This option may be named “Exchange ActiveSync” or “Corporate” on some versions of Android.
  4. Enter your full e-mail address JHEDID@jh.edu (note the that this should be jh.edu not jhu.edu)
  5. Enter your JHEDID password, and then select NEXT>
  6. The phone should automatically detect server settings and configure everything needed to access your mailbox.  If it does, proceed to step 9.
  7. If the server settings are not automatically detected, continue with the following steps to manually configure your settings:
    1. Domain\Username   Type your full e-mail address in this box JHEDID@jh.edu (note the that this should be jh.edu not jhu.edu)
    2. If Domain and Username are separate text boxes in your version of Android, leave the Domain box empty and type your full e-mail address in the Username box.
      Note: On some versions of Android, you need to use the domain\username format. For example, jh.edu\JHEDID@jh.edu (this should rarely be necessary).
    3. Password   Use your JHEDID password if this field is not already populated.
    4. Exchange Server   Enter outlook.office365.com
  8. Tap NEXT>
  9. As soon as your phone verifies the server settings, the Account Options screen displays. The options available depend on the version of Android on your device. The options may include the following:
    1. IMPORTANT – Be sure to uncheck “Sync Text messages” if it is checked. Otherwise, all of your text messages will be sent to your JHU mailbox
    2. Email checking frequency   The default value is Automatic (push).
    3. Amount to synchronize   This is the amount of mail you want to keep on your mobile phone.
    4. Sync contacts from this account   If you select this option, your contacts will be synchronized between your phone and your account.
  10. Tap NEXT> and then type a name for this account and the name you want displayed when you send e-mail to others.
  11. Tap DONE to complete the e-mail setup and start using your account.
