How long can I keep my JHU e-mail address after graduation?

Please be advised that JHU is currently working on a plan to deactivate JHED IDs 90 days after graduation.  Graduates will have alumni mailboxes automatically provisioned for them and it will be possible for graduates to keep their JHEDID@jhu.edu email address.  The information that follows below are the JHED and email retention policies that are currently in place (as of May 2019), but will likely be revised very soon and previous graduates will not be grandfathered.

Your current JHU student e-mail account will remain active for up to 3 years after graduation. However, there is a process you can complete to have it remain effective indefinitely. It involves creating an alumni e-mail account. You should receive an e-mail from the JHU Alumni Office once you become eligible for this. You should follow the instructions outlined in that message as soon as you receive it unless you intend on enrolling in another JHU program very soon or you risk losing access to your JHU e-mail.

The alumni e-mail account will actually be a new e-mail account/address that will be your JHEDID@alumni.jh.edu. However, as part of the migration process, there are steps to create an alias so that your current JHU e-mail address (yourJHEDID@jhu.edu) will continue to work and any messages sent to that address will route to your new alumni account.

A link to the Alumni page and other information you need to complete the process is here

If you have problems with the process, there are e-mail links on the right-hand side of the Alumni page to get help. Since none of these systems or processes are under the control of the SON ITS group, our ability to assist with them is very limited.
